Happy Halloween

It has come to my attention that some people still think of Halloween as Satin's holiday. I as a follower of Christ do not buy it. I LOVE Halloween, all the ghosts and goblins are so cute. However, I do not like when older kids decide to make it not fun, by terrorizing young ones and destroying property. But I found this article about Halloween that's shows what is really up:

"The origins of Halloween go back to pre-Christian times, to when Celtic groups in areas now known as Ireland, Scotland and Wales celebrated their New Year’s Day on November 1. This day was called “All Saints’ Day”, and October 31 was called “All Hallows’ Eve”. When Christianity took root in northern Europe, these folk customs were incorporated into a Christian framework. Samhein became All Saints Day, a day to commemorate all dead saints and martyrs. All Saints Day was sometimes known as All Hallows’ Day, and the night before, All Hallow’s Eve, or Hallow e’en, which we today call Halloween.
The Celts brought their folk customs to America with them, where they took root and evolved over the years. Halloween was originally celebrated in America as a harvest festival. Carved turnips became carved pumpkins, which grew in abundance in America. Colorful costumes replaced disguises, and trick-or-treat evolved from presenting food and drink to the wandering spirits. "

So relax you little ghouls, Halloween is a celebration for fun and silliness!

Bag Lady

A few months ago I learned how to make these adorable quilted bags and since I have rolled into mass production (meaning about one a month). This is one I just finished and sold to a gal at work who absolutely adores it. My plan is to whip a bunch of these bad boys out and sell them online for all of you to become the cutest chic on the block. I found this one to come out very cute and very useful with an added cell phone pocket on the inside. I also made one similar to this but in diaper bag fashion with bottle pockets, and a zipper to boot. Hopefully I will have some of these up on Etsy soon.

come back and I'll keep you posted!

The Movie Star

I've recently found myself addicted to this little guy, thanks to YellAsian. She decided since I love ginger that these little guys would be a nice surprise, and she was right. I first tasted them one afternoon a few years ago at Janet's house. I just can't get enough of this chewy goodness. I'm not sure if this is good for me or not, I am pretty sure that it can't be too bad. Although there are many disturbing photos on their website of cannibalistic Gingers such as this one, and also the giant growth coming out of his right side is a little unsettling.

All in all, Ginger is good for you and here's some reasons why:

  • Relieves menstrual cramps

  • Soothes morning sickness

  • Eases Indigestion & heartburn

  • Has Natural anti Inflammatory agents

  • Has aphrodisiacal properties

Kids Acting Out

I am currently teaching a children's theatre class for an organization called Kids Acting Out. This organization is really cool and provides great opportunities for elementary students.
When I decided to take on this position I knew that it would further my learning in elementary education. I knew that this experience would be a great opportunity for me to grow as an aspiring teacher. What I didn't know is that I would have 12 first and second graders who cannot comprehend the idea of facing the audience, and 10 third, fourth and fifth graders who know it all and don't need to listen while I'm talking.
I know you probably want to say "DUH!!!" but you see, I was told I would have mostly 5th graders and that most of them have previously done this program. On the 1st day of class I arrived to meet the 3 fifth graders and only 2 students that had ever done this before. The director of the program cannot understand why the kids are having such a hard time with stage direction
I, however, cannot understand how I am going to pull off a play with these kids with only 5 weeks left.
(Today is "No Scripts Allowed" night. Wish me luck!)

Save the Drama for Your Mama

One thing I really and truly hate in life is drama. Drama that is so ridiculously unnecessary. The people who make a scene and then make a grander scene because you glanced their direction, are too much for me. I don't like to be a part of it.
One thing I hate even more so than this is putting together a party for someone; coordinating, inviting, scheduling, driving, paying and having it all blow up in your face with drama. Too much drama even for your mama. It's my party and I'll cry if I want to...drama.
Dont do it! It ruins reationships, causes ilness', makes you look like an idiot.

My name is Lauren!

Hello all, I created this blog many months ago but have been pondering the approach I wanted to take. I have decided on blatant honesty, me in the raw... well not completely raw, I won't be blogging in the nude or anything!

My name is Lauren.
I am a twenty-something gal, who dreams of the day she can be married to the man she loves and have his babies. In actuality they will all be my babies, he's just my sperm donor of choice, mainly because I think he is handsome and he makes me laugh.

I currently live in sunny California and go to school at CSUN. I am a Liberal Studies major and have two years until I am finished. I would love to teach Kindergarten or maybe even first grade because I have a passion for watching children become individuals with purpose to their lives.

In my spare time I love reading blogs, and sipping wine. I have an odd obsession with the Golden Girls, and am dangerously addicted to lotion and chap stick. I'm sure I'll talk about hat later.

Hope you enjoy the many posts we share together, happy reading!
